Wood burning stove

Many homes are using a wood burning stove to provide more then a decorative effect. With the increasing costs of fuel this has become a popular source of auxiliary heat. This type of stove should be professionally installed.

Check with your broker or agent for the requirements of your property insurer. Most have a form that must be completed which details the installation of the stove including the person or firm who did the actual installation. This is a good guide for safety requirements that you should be considering when purchasing such a stove.

Some insurance companies do require that you report that you have a wood burning stove. If you have failed to notify your insurer and you do have a fire that started from the wood burning stove you will not be covered. You would find yourself without the resources to pay to rebuild your home and your mortgage company demanding payment. Not a pretty picture.
