Why not buy on-line insurance?

On-line insurance can be cheaper then using a broker or an agent. Be sure that the website you are using is direct to the company. If you are dealing directly with the company, there is likely no commission or a reduced-commission paid.

There is also an option brought in by AXA Pacific Insurance in Alberta to give you the option of a new hybrid choice. The company’s Buy Now option allows customers to have a broker-driven online insurance purchasing alternative.

The Buy Online solution lets Alberta drivers select a broker through the www.axa.ca website, purchase their policy online with no broker assistance, or if they wish, seek advice to finalize the sale.

If you are willing to give up the personal relationship you have with a broker or an agent, then on-line may suit you well. You will need to contact the company directly when you change anything on your policy. You will need to check your own documents to be sure that the change has been done correctly.

It is important to remember that you likely will have to contact your company through a "Call Centre" so you usually will not speak to the same person each time you call.

Be aware that when you have a claim there is no "middle man" to advocate for you in regards to service or final payouts.

If there is an error then again, there is no "middle man" to cover through the agent or broker Error and Ommission insurance. You are on your own.

If you do not have regular access to a computer, this might also affect your decision. Most public libraries will offer free access to computers and this would help solve that problem.
