How big is your waist line?

Big waist and higher risk of death

A big waist can double your risk of an early death. Some of the causes include heart disease, respiratory illness and cancer.

If you are not overweight, you just have a big waist, then your risk is even higher.

For women the association of a bigger waist and a normal body mass index (BMI) is an elevated risk. You need to watch the belly fat!

Canadian young people age 20 to 39 with waist lines that are considered high risk have seen a statistical rise in numbers. It has actually quadrupled since 1981. Men saw the increase from 5% to 21% but women saw the increase go from 6% to 31% according to Statistics Canada.

Time to get out those old hoola-hoops and start whittling down the waist lines!
