Vandalism is the destroying or damaging, or attempting to destroy or damage, the property of another without the owner’s consent, or public property, except by burning.

Vandalism by tenants must have an element of maliciousness. To treat the home badly and not to repair or replace items that have been damaged is not vandalism. Spray painting obscenities is vandalism. Vandalism is the physical damage to property by malicious mischief.

Vandalism must be reported to the authorities and is a condition required in the claim process.

Garaging your vehicle, doing regular checks on your rented property (after supplying proper notice to the tenants), and choosing to park your car in a well lit area are all steps you can take to help prevent vandalism.
