Toy - magnetic maze board recall

Magnetic Maze Boards by Lakeshore Learning recalled

On August 26 2010 Health Canada recalled wooden magnetic maze boards by Lakeshore Learning. This wooden board has clear plastic that covers small plastic or wooden pieces inside a maze. A plastic wand is used to move the maze pieces around the board. The want has a powerful magnet in its tip. This wand is attached to the board by a cord.

The maze boards that are included in the recall are:

  • Who's Hiding in the Garden?
  • Who's Hiding in the Ocean?
  • Magnetic Counting Maze
  • Magnetic Alphabet Board
  • My Community Magnetic Board

What is the danger?

The plastic wand can come apart. This will release the small, powerful magnet tip. A child could eat it which is a choking hazard. If that child swallows more than one magnet, the magnets can attract while travelling through the intestines. This can cause blockages or holes in the intestinal walls. The results can be very serious and even fatal.

Lakeshore Learning has received 10 reports of the wands separating and magnets detaching, with no reported injuries. At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the recalled products.
