Smoking miners get their cigarettes

Trapped deep inside a mine and needing a smoke?

For the 33 men trapped inside a Chilean mine their smoking needs are going to be met. It is only two packs of cigarettes a day for the total group.

The miners were found alive on August 22, 2010 which was 17 days after a cave-in of the 700 metre deep mine in the remote Atacama desert.

Attempts to relieve the need for a smoke were not met by the nicotine patches sent down a metal shaft. There is now a plastic tube that gets air and water down to the miners so they can finally have their "smokes".

Food, water and smokes are now on the menu. Liquor has not been approved.
