Silver tree tea light candle holder recall

On December 22, 2010 the Silver Tree Tealight Holder sold at Michaels Stores, Inc. was recalled. This is a joint recall with Michaels Stores, Inc., Health Canada and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC).

This recalled product is a silver tea light holder in the shape of a Christmas tree. It holds nine tea light candles and is approximately 41 centimetres (16 inches) tall with a silver star at the top.

You can identify the item by the SKU number 10161667 and the UPC 400100776902 which can be found on the tag attached to the product at the time of sale.

What is the danger?

The flame from the candles can touch the bottom of another tea light holder because the holders are not aligned properly on the tree. This poses fire and burn hazards to consumers.

At time of the recall Michaels Stores, Inc. has received one report of the tea light holder catching on fire in Canada. In the United States, they have received five reports of the tea light holders catching on fire, with one report of a minor burn from the hot wax.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries from the use of these tea light holders.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to any Michaels Arts & Crafts Store for a full refund.

Approximately 648 of the silver tree tea light holders were sold at Michaels Arts & Crafts Stores across Canada.

Approximately 7,661 of the silver tree tea light holders were sold at Michaels Arts & Crafts Stores in the United States.

The tea light holders were sold from October to December 2010 in Canada and in the United States. The products were manufactured in China. The manufacturer is Michaels Stores Inc. of Irving, Texas.
