Shag rug recalled as fire hazard

On April 21, 2011 Health Canada has recalled the "Carpet Art Deco" brand rug of the Shag Rug Nebraska collection.

This recall involves area rugs of the Shag Rug Nebraska collection sold under the brand name "Carpet Art Deco" by Rona Inc. The rug measures 160 centimeters by 225 centimeters, and can be identified by the SKU number 69566096 and the UPC 805497078927.

What is the danger?

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has identified that the rugs do not meet the requirements for textile flammability under Canadian law.

The rugs could easily catch fire if exposed to a flame or other ignition source such as a lighter, match, candle, stove element or spark from a fireplace, posing a burn risk and fire hazard to consumers.

At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these rugs.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the recalled rugs and contact Rona Inc. for a full refund.

How many were sold and where?

The recalled rugs were sold from October 2010 to April 2011. These rugs were manufactured in China.

The manufacturer is Carpet Art Deco of Montreal, Quebec. The retailer is Rona Inc., of Boucherville, Quebec.
