SEF 44

SEF 44 is the family protection endorsement which provides for eligible claimants who have a claim against another motorist for injuries or death of the insured, the insured's spouse and any dependent relative of either, if the other motorist has no insurance or has insufficient insurance to satisfy the claim.

In a time when the economy is unstable and people have less money to spend there is an increased risk of the uninsured or underinsured motorist. If this person hits you and injures you or your family members then you might possibly need the protection provided by the SEF 44. Be very cautious about reducing this amount. Normally it will match the Public Liability and Property Damage (PLPD) limit.

The maximum amount payable is the limit on the endorsement which exceeds the liability limits of the other motorist, or any other available sources as is described in the endorsement. Sometimes the SEF 44 limit is reduced in an attempt to reduce premium. This should be very carefully considered - unfortunately, there are many motorists on the road without adequate insurance. Often this motorist has a bad driving record which increases the chance of their causing an accident in which you might be injured.

Talk to your agent or broker about what limit you have for this important protection.
