This endorsement affects your Section C - Comprehensive coverage - limiting the glass payouts. When you choose this limitation of coverage the premium is reduced significantly.

If you have this limitation then damage to your front windshield is not going to be covered for almost all claims. Only if you have a collision or upset the insurance company will include replacing the glass. The coverage to the back and sides is not as limited but remember, it is less likely to suffer the damage that a front windshield gets from "road hazard" such as rocks bouncing up and cracking or breaking the windshield. Road hazard also would not be covered for the back or side windows.

If your vehicle has expensive glass and you wish to add road hazard coverage or front window vandalism then you should discuss it with your agent or broker. There are some specialty insurance companies that can offer a "stand-alone" glass policy. With new infrastructure projects across the country we can expect to see quite a bit of construction on the roads. This usually results in rocks on the highways coming off of trucks or kicking up from the traffic.

There are some more inexpensive options then carrying it on your main automobile policy. If your vehicle's glass is not expensive to repair then this might be a way you can self-insure without a high degree of risk. What you save on glass coverage is "banked" for when you do have a repair. Be aware that in some provinces you can receive a ticket for having cracks in your windshield and/or have your vehicle impounded. A vehicle inspection requires that cracks in the windshield not impede the driver's vision.

Most insurance companies do not make this 13D endorsement available for trailers, recreational vehicles and commercial trailers.

In consideration of the premium charged, it is hereby understood and agreed that the Insurer shall not be liable under Subsection 3 of Section C for loss or damage to glass unless such loss or damage is caused by fire, lightning, theft or attempt thereat, windstorm, earthquake, hail, explosion, riot or civil commotion, falling or forced landing of aircraft or of parts thereof, rising water, or the stranding, sinking, burning, derailment or collision of any conveyance in or upon which the automobile is being transported on land or water.

In addition, the insurer shall be liable for loss or damage caused by vandalism to windows other than the front window.

Except as otherwise provided in this endorsement, all limits, terms, conditions, provisions, definitions and exclusions of the policy shall have full force and effect.

If more than one automobile is described under this policy, this endorsement shall apply only to the automobile (s) against which the SEF 13d is designated in the schedule of automobiles attached to and forming part of this policy, or as stated in the Certificate of Insurance to which this endorsement is attached.
