Reebok childrens wear safety recall

On January 21, 2011 Health Canada has recalled Childrens Polo Pajama and Flannel Lounge Pants by Outerstuff ULC

This particular recall involves children's polo pyjama and flannel lounge pants sold under the brand name "Reebok" by Outerstuff ULC.

The items recalled are:

  • Polo Pajama - 2-piece pajama set with sports team logo that includes a long-sleeved top and pants in various colors and designs. Made of 60% cotton and 40% polyester. QCX (additional alpha or numeric characters may appear before or after the "QCX") CA # CA43063.
  • Lounge Pants - Plaid pajama lounge pants with sports team logo on the leg and inner drawstring at the waist. Made of 100% cotton flannel. Printed on the hang tag "Not intended for Sleepwear" and "Not flame resistant". 7R5 (additional alpha or numeric characters may appear before or after the "7R5") CA # CA43063.

What is the danger?

Health Canada has determined that the recalled polo pajama and lounge pants do not meet the design and flammability requirements for childrens sleepwear under Canadian law.

Loose-fitting childrens sleepwear can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear. When loose-fitting sleepwear is made with natural fibers such as cotton, they can burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child's body.

At time of the recall neither Health Canada nor Outerstuff ULC has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the sleepwear.

What should I do?

Take the recalled sleepwear away from children and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 919 units of the flannel lounge pants and 7,452 units of the polo pyjamas were sold at independent retail stores in Canada.

The recalled flannel lounge pants were sold from June 2006 to September 2009 and the recalled polo pajamas were sold from September 2009 to December 2010.

The clothing was manufactured in China. The importer is Outerstuff Canada ULC of Mississauga, Ontario.
