Pedestrian safety

Walking is becoming quite popular. The Baby Boomers are finding this to be an excellent form of exercise and it is not uncommon to see groups of walkers on an afternoon stroll. You should consider Defensive Walking Techniques.

Some basics for what can you do to make that walk a bit safer? Consider the following:

  • Be alert at intersections - look out for speeders or unsafe drivers.
  • Watch for backing vehicles - they may not see you.
  • Be seen - wear clothing that will be seen by passing motorists.
  • Double‐check the system - is there room to walk?
  • Choose carefully where you walk - plan your route.
  • Recognize how you’re feeling - limit activity when you are not well.
  • Report issues to civil authority when you encounter unsafe conditions.

Enjoy your walk, walkathon or hike.
