Owner as additional insured exception

You will see this noted under the pollution coverage on a business insurance policy. The pollution claims are declared as not covered under the insurance except for a few situations. This could be one of them.

The owner as additional insured exception is for when there is bodily injury or property damage from the named insured’s (person or entity named as policy holder and shown on the policy document) premises is covered if the named insured is a contractor and applies even if the site’s owner is listed as an additional insured (insurance will respond to claims brought forward under this policy for this specific person or entity).

This is necessary because the contractor would not be able to make a claim under their own Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy for operations that are away from the contractor’s premises solely because the owner is listed as an additional insured on the contractor’s CGL policy.

Talk to your agent or broker about your particular needs. Take control of your insurance.
