Optional Coverage

In automobile insurance, optional coverage is a commonly used term for insurance that is not required by law. This coverage could be for collision or comprehensive claims (e.g., fire, vandalism). Not only is the coverage optional but the limits and deductibles can vary. For home insurance, optional coverage is that which is not normally included in basic home insurance policies. You can purchase a wider, more comprehensive coverage then the basic fire insurance. You can also purchase separately the coverage for sewer back-up, identity theft and in some areas coverage for damage from earthquakes, forest fires and furnace oil-spills.
