Northwest Territories safety charges

Each province has its own rules and guidelines for occupational health and safety. The insurance answer is that less claims create great profitability. Of course, not all claims and be avoided but sometimes the injury is due to a safety violation.

There have been 25 charges laid after a worker was injured at a hydro power facility on June 3, 2008. The Snare Hydro power facility is north of Yellowknife. The charges have been laid by The Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission of the Northwest Territories.

Two individuals have been charged and the Northwest Territories Power Corporation, Mandeville Engineering and Carter Industries. The accusation is based on the failure to take reasonable precautions and implement procedures to ensure the safety of a worker at the site, Tim McAuley. The first court appearance will be June 30th.
