Mobile audio amplifier product recall

On December 24, 2010 Health Canada recalled the "JL Audio" Mobile Audio Amplifier.

This recall involves mobile audio amplifier for cars with model number HD750/1, sold under the brand name "JL Audio" by Gem-Sen Distribution.

What is the danger?

The rectifier diode in location D519 of the circuit board is defective, which can short out and produce excessive heat capable of causing damage to the circuit board. This can pose a potential fire hazard.

At time of the recall neither Health Canada nor Gem-Sen Distribution has received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this amplifier.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the recalled amplifier and return the product to Gem-Sen Distribution, who will then send the amplifier to JL Audio Inc. for repair.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 154 of the recalled products were sold at Gem-Sen Distribution stores in Canada between October 2008 to July 2009.

These amplifiers were manufactured in China. The distributor is Gem-Sen Distribution of Concord, Ontario.
