Million dollar speeding ticket

The record has been set for the world's biggest speeding fine. A Swedish motorist got the fine of $1.06 million after being caught driving at 289 km/h on a motorway in Switzerland.

He was driving a Mercedes worth over $200,000 and was going over twice the speed limit. When the police went after him it took the vehicle some time to stop because it was travelling so fast.

Switzerland has a rather unique way of determining how big your speeding ticket will be. The formula is based on the speed you are driving and your income. This speeders fine is 300 days at $3,548 a day.

The driver was travelling on the A12 highway between Lausanne and Bern. It was hard to catch him because he was going too fast for the radar traps. Radar cannot clock speeds beyond 200 km/h.
