Michaels glass vase product recall

Michaels 20" tall square glass vase recalled

Effective September 21, 2010 there is a Joint Recall with Michaels Stores, Health Canada, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC).

The recall involves 4" square glass vases sold at Michaels stores. The vases are 20" or 51cm tall and can be identified by UPC 037916889603.

What is the danger?

The glass in the middle of the vase is too thin. It can break easily when it is being held by an individual; this poses a laceration hazard.

At time of the recall Michaels Stores Inc. has received nine reports of lacerations to the area between the thumb and forefinger, including two reports from Canada.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these vases.

What should I do?
You should immediately stop using the recalled vases and contact The Gerson Company for information on receiving a refund.

For more information, you may contact The Gerson Company at 1-877-461-6298 between 8 AM and 5 PM CT Monday to Friday. Alternatively, consumers may e-mail the company at moc.ynapmocnosreg|llacer#moc.ynapmocnosreg|llacer or visit the Gerson Company website.

How many of these have been sold and where?

There have been about 9,000 vases sold at Michaels stores in Canada and approximately 203,000 vases were distributed in the United States. The vases were sold from July 2006 to March 2010.

The vases were manufactured in China under the manufacturer, The Gerson Company of Olathe, Kansas. The distributor is Michaels Stores Inc. of Irving, Texas.
