iPod retractable wall charger recalled

Retrak-brand iPod Retractable Wall Chargers were recalled in Canada on November 18, 2010.

This recall involves two models of Retrak-brand wall chargers for iPods:

  • Model ETIPODCHGW is a white wall charger with a retractable cable.
  • Model ETIPODCHGWB is a black wall charger with a retractable cable.

What is the danger?

These recalled retractable chargers are not certified to Canadian standards and have not been evaluated for safety hazards. They may pose a fire hazard to consumers.

At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these retractable chargers.

What do I do?

You should immediately stop using the recalled chargers and contact Emerge Technologies Inc. for instructions on how to return them for a full refund, including shipping costs.

There have been about 15,780 units of the recalled retractable chargers sold at Best Buy, GEM-SEN Distribution, Micro-Channel Management, Staples and Tiger Direct stores across Canada. The units were sold from August 2008 to October 2010.

These wall chargers were manufactured in China. The company is Emerge Technologies, Inc. of Irving, Texas.
