Impact With An Animal

Under the Comprehensive portion of Section C of an automobile policy there is coverage for impact with an animal.

This claim is usually not regarded as collision as the animal is not stationary. If the animal was dead and lying on the road then the ruling might change and the collision section would be used to pay out the claim. Collision usually has a higher deductible so it is best not to declare an animal is dead unless you are very certain due to the circumstances.

Specified Perils coverage does not include impact with an animal. It also does not include vandalism. This is why the Comprehensive portion is more expensive.

If you live in a rural area or travel frequently on the highways then impact with an animal is a coverage you should seriously consider having on your policy.
