Hyundai Sonata safety recall

2011 Hyundai Sonata recall

The Hyundai Motor Company September 23, 2010 has had a recall on the steering gear box shaft sector on approximately 139,500 vehicles.

Hyundia is recalling certain 2011 Sonata vehicles manufactured from December 11, 2009 through September 10, 2010.

What is the danger?

It has been determined that on some of these vehicles the steering column intermediate shaft universal joint connections have been either insufficiently tightened or improperly assembled.

This problem with the connections could result in a complete separation or a compromised attachment of the connections. This could lead to a driver experiencing a loss of steering capability or at least a reduced steering capability. This could increase the risk of a car crash.

What do I do?

You may contact Hyundai at their customer assistance centre at 1-800-533-5151. The dealers will inspect the steering column intermediate shaft universal joint connections for proper assembly and torque. The dealers will update the power steering software free of charge.
