Honda snowblower recall

On January 5, 2011 Health Canada recalled certain Honda Snow Blowers.

This recall involves the following Honda snow blowers. The model number and serial number can be found on the frame:

  • Model Number HS622 Prefix (before serial number) SZAL Serial Number 1132227 to 1135769
  • Model Number HS724 Prefix SZBE Serial Number 1039093 to 1046537
  • Model Number HS928 Prefix SZAS Serial Number 1153849 to 1168932
  • Model Number HS1132 Prefix SZBF Serial Number 1019384 to 1025493
  • Model Number HS1336i Prefix SACJ Serial Number 1014018 to 1014057
  • Model Number HSM1336i Prefix SAKJ Serial Number 1001284 to 1004177


What is the danger?

The fuel tank joint on the affected snow blowers may not be tightened fully to the fuel tank, posing a risk of fuel leak. If the gasoline from a leaking tank is ignited, it can cause burns or serious injuries.

At time of the recall neither Health Canada nor Honda Canada Inc. has received any reports of injuries or incidents related to the use of these snow blowers.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the recalled snow blowers until they have been repaired. You are advised to contact an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer to make an appointment to have the fuel tank joint replaced free of charge.

If the snow blower is leaking gasoline, immediately move the snow blower outside and away from possible ignition sources, such as heaters or electrical appliances. Do not refill the fuel tank.

How many were sold?

Approximately 17,425 of the recalled snow blowers were sold across Canada. They were sold from July 25 to present. Dealers have been instructed to repair affected units in inventory prior to sale.

the snow blowers were manufactured in Japan. The distributor is Honda Canada Inc. of Markham, ON.
