Health is the approach to medicine that is concerned with the health of the community as a whole. Public health is community health. It has been said that: "Health care is vital to all of us some of the time, but public health is vital to all of us all of the time."

Health insurance can include your medical coverage that is over and above your provincial or territorial basic plan. Health insurance is for accident and sickness. This would be the insurance you could buy as an individual for emergency illness that could include items such as air ambulance, prescriptions and crutches when you fall while climbing a mountain and break your leg. This also could be covered under a group plan through your work.

If you were traveling then these unexpected medical costs might be covered by your travel insurance. Be aware that your local provincial or territorial health insurance will have limitations or exclusions of coverage in different spots in Canada.

If your fall off the mountain meant that you were not able to return to your job for a while then disability insurance might cover your last wages. Again, this can be something you purchase individually or something available through your work. Your work disability policy can be a group plan.

If your job involved climbing mountains and you are covered by Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) then your case would go before their board to determine what, if any, disability would be paid.
