Shooters Choice Gun Care products recalled

On August 19 2010 Shooters Choice Gun Care Products by Ventco Inc. were recalled.

The products by "Shooters Choice" that are on the recall list include the following:

  • Polymer Safe Quick-Scrub Action Cleaner is available in a 354g (13oz) pressurized aerosol container with a black and yellow label. The wording "For Use On All Firearms" is printed on the container. You can identify the recalled product by the product code PSQ12 and the UPC 027784012500.
  • Shotgun & Choke Tube Cleaner is available in a 340g (12oz) pressurized aerosol container with a green and pink label. The wording "Use on Barrels, Choke Tubes and Ports" is printed on the container. This product can be identified by the product code SG012 and the UPC 027784000125.
  • Quick Scrub III Cleaner/Degreaser is available in a 510g (18oz) pressurized aerosol container with a black and yellow label. The wording "For Quality Firearms" is printed on the container. You can identify the recalled product by the product code DG315 and the UPC 027784003157.
  • Xtreme Clean Bore and Action Cleaner is available in a 340g (12oz) pressurized aerosol container with a black and yellow label. The wording "Ammonia Free" and "Quickly Remove Copper Fouling" are printed on the container. Identify this recalled product by the product code XT012 and the UPC 027784001207.
  • Rust Prevent Rust Preventative and Lubricant is available in a 170 g (6 oz) pressurized aerosol container with a black and yellow label. The wording "For Use On All Firearms" is printed on the container. This recalled product can be identified by the product code RP006 and the UPC 027784000064.


What is the danger?

Health Canada's auditing process has determined that these products do not meet the labelling requirements under Canadian law. The products lack the symbols and warnings required for consumer chemicals and lack French labelling.

The lack of labelling information, including appropriate warnings, could result in the mishandling of the product leading to serious illness or injury. At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these products.

What do I do?

For your safety you should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact the place where they were purchased for further instructions. Alternatively, you may dispose of the products as per Municipal Hazardous Waste Guidelines. You should contact your municipality for instructions on how to dispose of aerosol containers.

How many of these products have been sold and where?

This product was sold across Canada. About 2,764 recalled products were sold from January 2010 to July 2010. This products was manufactured in United States by Ventco Inc of Middlefield, Ohio.
