Grow Operation
  • For the past few years there has been an increasing awareness of drug cultivation operations - growing marijuana in homes or offices. The usual location is a rental property in a residential neighbourhood.
  • Mold is a common structural damage resulting from the water, chemicals and soil used in this operation. There is also a higher risk of fire. These operations require extra light and ventilation and the high humidity is not good for the electrical circuits.
  • Some steps you can take to avoid this happening in property that you own and rent out include:

Get to know the neighbours in the area of your rental. Let them know that it is a rental and that you would like to be told if they see something suspicious. Screen your tenants carefully by checking references, request that they carry tenant insurance, be there to help out when they are moving in and be sure to let them know you will check the property on a regular basis.

  • If you suspect that there is illegal activity then do not take matters into your own hands. Instead, contact the police or CrimeStoppers.
