GM recall for fire risk

GM has recalled nearly 1.5 million cars worldwide because a washer fluid heater system can overheat and cause a fire. This is the second recall over this issue in the past two years.

The recall includes the following models:

  • Buick Enclave 2008-2009
  • Buick Lucerne 2006-2009
  • Cadillac CTS 2008-2009
  • Cadillac DTS 2006-2009
  • Cadillac Escalade 2007-2009
  • Cadillac Escalade ESV 2007-2009
  • Cadillac Escalade EXT 2007-2009
  • Chevrolet Avalanche 2007-2009
  • Chevrolet Silverado 3500 2007-2009
  • Chevrolet Suburban 2007-2009
  • Chevrolet Tahoe 2007-2009
  • Chevrolet Traverse 2009
  • GMC Acadia 2007-2009
  • GMC Sierra 2007-2009
  • GMC Yukon 2007-2009
  • GMC Yukon XL 2007-2009
  • Hummer H2 2006-2009
  • Saturn Outlook 2007-2009

If you own one of these vehicles you book an appointment to have the heater portion of the washer fluid system removed. At this point there are no known injuries or car crashes reported due to the failure of this.

The manufacturers have said that they will pay owners and those leasing the vehicles $100 each for the loss of the feature. If you own one of these vehicles you should receive recall letters later this month but you do not have to wait for the recall notice from GM. You can book an appointment with a dealership if you wish.
