Giant Stars toy recalled

September 15, 2010 Health Canada recalled all sets of Giant Stars. The sets include "stars" that are approximately 13cm (five inches) in diameter and made of opaque plastic in a variety of colours. The stars are designed to connect together by the six ball-like knobs that form the star. The Giant Stars sets contain blue, green, red and yellow stars. You can identify by them by the model #825009, and UPC 608618850095.

What is the danger?

The ball-like knobs on the plastic stars can break off and form small parts. The small parts pose a choking hazard to young children.

As of September 15, 2010 Edushape Ltd. has received three reports of the ball-like knobs breaking off, with no reported injuries. Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these toys.

What do I do?

You should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and contact Borgfeldt Ltd. (distributor of the Giant Stars in Canada) for a replacement or credit towards another Edushape product.

How many and where were they sold?

About 90 of the recalled toy sets were sold at several small retailers across Canada from January 2007 to May 2010. the toys were manufactured in China and distributed by Edushape Ltd. of Deer Park, New York.
