Fridge control board overheat cause fire

On May 2, 2011 the Refrigerator by Fagor America Inc. has been recalled by Health Canada.

This recall involves Fagor 61 centimeters (24 inches) wide refrigerators sold in stainless steel and black. "Fagor" is printed on the refrigerator's front door. The model and serial numbers are located inside the refrigerator door, on the left hand side near the food storage drawers.

What is the danger?

The refrigerator's control board can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Fagor America Inc. has received 19 reports of incidents, including two reports of fires resulting in damage to the refrigerator and surrounding property. No injuries have been reported.

At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these refrigerators.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the refrigerator, unplug it and contact Fagor America Inc. repair hot line to schedule a free inspection and repair.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 237 units of the recalled refrigerators were sold at specialty appliance stores across Canada. The recalled products were sold between July 2006 and May 2010.

The fridges were manufactured in Spain. The manufacturer is Fagor America Inc. of Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
