Ratings for the Ford Mustang, Toyota Tundra, Dodge trucks and Acura MDX

The restyled and re-engineered Ford 2010 Mustang convertible has received some good ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The concern is for for occupant protection in side impacts and offset frontal crashes. It is interesting that when initially tested the 2010 model it earned a poor frontal rating. A follow-up test showed great improvement after modifications were done to the doors and front structure.

Another vehicle that has earned a good rating for occupant protection is the 2010 Acura MDX. This is a midsize luxury SUV which had modification done to side airbags. The former design in the 2007-2009 also earned a good side rating.

The 2010 Toyota Tundra modifications done to the frontal airbags and safety belts. Toyota added knee airbags for the driver and front passenger in order to retain the good rating it earned for frontal protection for 2007-09 models. Toyota had also earned good ratings for side and rear protection on this pickup in the past.

Dodge is having some issues with the 2005-10 Dakota pickups side curtain air bags. Chrysler is going to "perform a service action" and owners should contact their dealers for more information. The Insurance Institute test on these side curtain air bags was not wholly satisfactory.

Dodge had good side-impact test ratings for the Tacoma, Ranger and Frontier. The Colorado received the lowest rating of poor. The Frontier was rated Good. The Ranger rated as Acceptable and the Tacoma, Colorado and Dakota came up as Marginal.
