Exercise fitness resistance tubing recall

On April 1, 2011 Resistance Stretch Tubing has been recalled by Health Canada.

This recall involves Everlast Resistance Stretch Tubing and Sportline Resistance Stretch Tubing, used for exercise and stretching. If you have purchased this tubing to help you fat burn and battle the bulge to achieve your fitness goal then you need to check this out. Breaking a bone will not help you look better in that bikini!

The tubings come in yellow, blue or black with black handles. The tubing can be identified by the following model numbers:

  • EX2404BK 654602 224045
  • SZ2404BK 654602 824047


The words "2404", "2001 EB Sport Group" and "Made in China" are molded on the handles. A list of affected lot numbers is available on the firm's website.

What is the danger?

The handle on the tubing can break or detach while in use, causing the tubing or handle to strike the user and posing an injury hazard.

EB Brands has received one report of an incident involving a bone injury.

Star Case Canada Inc. has received two reports of incidents involving the handles breaking. One caused a broken glass door, another bruised the user.

At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries in Canada related to the use of these products.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Star Case Canada Inc. for a free replacement product or a full refund.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 31,168 units of the affected model EX2404BK and 2,184 units of the affected model SZ2404BK were sold at Sears Canada, The Shopping Channel, Wal-Mart Canada, Zellers, Winners and online at Well.ca.

These recalled products were sold from April 2010 to January 2011. The resistance tubing was manufactured in China. The manufacturer is EB Brands of Yonkers, New York. The importer is Resistance Stretch Tubing, Star Case Canada Inc. of Oakville, Ontario.
