Eligibility Period

A certain length of time, usually 31 days, which follows the eligibility date. The individual member of a particular group remains eligible to apply for insurance under a group life or health insurance policy without having to provide evidence of insurability.

If your health is challenged then this coverage is very important to you. To purchase health insurance you will normally be required to answer medical questions and submit to blood work or other verification of health.

Group plans are usually a very good benefit for an employee and you should weigh your options carefully. If your spouse has a group plan then often the benefits can be compounded. An example is if there is a $1000 limit on dental for one plan and $1000 limit on another you can submit a claim for each plan and have a full $2000 paid.
