Electric fireplace mold danger recall

On November 5, 2010 Quality Craft Home Decor has announced a voluntary recall. This voluntary recall involves an electric fireplace heater sold under the model name "Mayhill". The unit has a brown mantel that is 71 cm (28 inches) wide.

You can identify the recalled fireplace by model number SRM9312628DC and UPC 067472131540.

What is the danger?

Yes, some units were found to have mold growth on the MDF panels. Exposure to mold can cause health effects in some people. The most common effects are allergic responses from breathing mold spores.

At the time of the recall Quality Craft Home D├ęcor nor Health Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these fireplaces.

If you own one of these fireplaces from Canadian Tire Stores then you should contact Quality Craft Home Decor Customer Service for inspection or return instructions.

These approximately 1, 178 recalled fireplaces were sold at various Canadian Tires Stores in Canada from October 4, 2010 to October 26, 2010. They were manufactured in China. The importer is Quality Craft Home Decor Ltd. of Surrey, British Columbia.
