Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are professional help for employees and their families for education, support and access to programs to assist in areas such as dependency problems or stress counseling.

This type of program is confidential in nature. If your company has such a program it should be included in your information package when you start your employment.

Often group insurance does respond to psychiatric counselling fees but there can be a certain hesitation about submitting such a claim. Under an EAP the contact is outside of the workplace and strictly confidential.
