Drunk friend hurt in my home. Can he sue?

Is there going to be insurance to pay the claim? When your friend came to the party he drank a little too much. Now he has fallen down, a number of times. Can he sue?

What happens when liquor gets involved? Now the waters get muddied because you, the host, supply or regulate the liquor in your home. What if a drunken guest picks a fight and hurts a guest while on your property? Are you negligent for not protecting the innocent party? A judge could deem this to be true.

Of course, the best answer is not to have a claim at all. What can you do to prevent this from happening? Not give parties? That seems a bit extreme.

Liquor is a big part of most celebrations. Be it the costumed Halloween Party, a traditional Christmas Eve event or the Boxing Day "come and go", the first thing you will be asked is, "what will you have to drink?" Rich food, good friends, lots of good booze and everyone is sure to have a good time.

Whether it is a group coming over to play cards and having a few drinks or a more elaborate occasion, you need to be thinking about how to handle the consequences of serving alcohol and protecting yourself from a lawsuit.
