Diet Coke can lead to stroke?

Diet Coke and other low calorie soft drinks help you lose weight but it has become known that there is a link to stroke.

A study by a research team from Columbia University and Miami’s Miller School of Medicine has found that "people who drank diet soda every day had a 61% higher risk of vascular events than those who reported no soda drinking."

The study considered patients' heart disease history, age, race or ethnicity, sex, smoking status, alcohol consumption, exercise, and daily caloric intake.

The research considered how much and what kind of soda the subjects drank and then followed up with the subjects for almost 10 years. the results show that diet sodas have an increased risk at a rate 48% higher.

There is not a firm connection that drinking diet pop causes strokes and other vascular problems but 48% is a number that cannot be ignored. It could be the sweetener or coloring that is the culprit in these drinks. Further studies are warranted.

So back you go to water! Perhaps all those little old ladies are not too far wrong with the lemon slice and hot water drinks.
