Hopefully you do not find yourself need defense on a claim. When it does happen your commercial general liability (CGL) will be examined to see if your policy does indeed have coverage.

Once your defense starts you must do everything to assist the insurance company and be forthcoming with any documentation you receive.

Your defense costs will be covered as part of the legal expenses when a liability claim is brought against you. This is regardless of who is at fault. The insurance policy has to be "triggered" to start the defense. If you are found not to be negligent then the policy will not have to pay the amount for which you are being sued.

Sometimes the insurance policy will not respond to the claim and when that happens then the insurance policy will not respond to defend you in the claim.
