Cutting edge warning pressure washer

On July 21, 2011 Homelite, EZ Clean and Powercare 38 centimetre (15-inch) Surface Cleaner Attachments have been recalled.

There is a Joint Recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and the Homelite Consumer Products, Inc.

The recalled product is a surface cleaner attachment which attaches to a pressure washer. It was sold with a pressure washer or sold independently as an attachment that can be used with a pressure washer. The surface cleaner attachment can be used with pressure washers manufactured by companies other than Homelite.

Attached to the platform of the surface cleaner attachment are three labels. One identifies the product as a 38 centimeter (15-inch) surface cleaner, one contains various warnings and safety instructions, and the remaining one contains information relating to acceptable usage parameters. These units do not contain any date code, serial number or model number. They are either orange or red in color and can be further identified by having a hexagonal, brass colored shaped nozzle and a single interior wall.

These units were sold as a stand alone accessory and in some cases packaged with a gasoline powered pressure washer. They were sold under the Homelite, EZ Clean and Powercare brand names and are identified below:

  • Homelite HL80835 Red Sold with Pressure Washer
  • Homelite HL80833 Red Sold with Pressure Washer
  • EZ Clean AEZ31022 Red Sold as Accessory Only
  • Powercare AP31022A Orange Sold as Accessory Only


What is the danger?

The nozzle can detach from the spray bar which can damage the housing and in some circumstances be ejected posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

Homelite has received nine reports of incidents involving the recalled surface cleaner attachments, including one laceration injury and three reports of minor property damage.

At time of the recall Health Canada has not received reports of injuries related to the use of any of the surface cleaner attachments.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the recalled surface cleaner attachment and contact Homelite to receive a free replacement surface cleaner attachment. Homelite will contact those customers who have registered their purchase of an affected surface cleaner attachment.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 1,200 of the recalled surface cleaner attachments were sold in Canada, exclusively by Home Depot Canada, Inc.

In the United States, approximately 40,000 surface cleaner attachments were sold.

The recalled products were sold from February 2010 to June 2011 in Canada and the United States.

These defective units were manufactured in China. The manufacturer is Homelite Consumer Products Inc. of Anderson, South Carolina.
