What is the danger?

Health Canada advises that liquids can pool under the control knobs and cause a surface heating element to turn on unexpectedly, heat to temperatures other than expected, and then not turn off; these situations can pose a risk of fire and burn hazards to consumers.

At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these products.

What should I do?

You should stop using the recalled ranges and unplug them from the electrical outlet or power off the cooktops at the circuit breaker. You can contact the company for information on how to obtain a free repair kit.

For more information, you may contact Electrolux toll-free at 1-800-777-9241 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET Monday to Saturday. Alternatively, consumers can visit the Frigidaire recall website or the Electrolux ICON recall website.

How many of these units were sold and where?

There have been about 28,000 of the recalled ranges sold at different retailers across Canada. They were sold from January 2005 to August 2010.

The units were manufactured in Canada by The Frigidaire Division of Electrolux Canada Corp.
