Childrens sleepers from Sears recalled

On January 7, 2011 Health Canada recalled children's sleepers sold by Sears Canada.

The recalled sleepers can be identified by the following description and item numbers, which can be found on the Sears price ticket or the Sears sales receipt.

Only the sizes listed below are affected by this recall.

Brand Description Sears Item Number Sizes

  • Sesame Street Cookie Monster on a blue hooded velour sleeper Item 36849 Size 12M/20lbs

and 18M/26lbs

What is the danger?

The recalled sleepwear does not meet the design and flammability requirements for children's sleepwear under Canadian law.

Children's sleepwear that is loose fitting or that has loose edges can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more easily than tight-fitting sleepwear. Once ignited the sleepwear can burn rapidly and cause severe burns to large areas of the child's body resulting in shock and sometimes death.

At time of the recall neither Health Canada nor Sears Canada has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these sleepwear sets.

What should I do?

You are advised not to let your children wear the recalled sleepwear and should immediately take the affected product away from children. The recalled sleepwear can be returned to the nearest Sears Department store for a full refund if accompanied by a sales receipt or Sears Card statement, or for the lowest selling price without a receipt.

For more information, you may contact Sears at 1-800-267-3277.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 1,600 units of the recalled sleepwear were sold at Sears stores. The recalled Sesame Street sleepers were sold between August 2010 and December 2010. The recalled Small Paul sleepers were sold between October 2010 and January 2011.

The sleepers were manufactured in China. The retailer is Sears Canada Inc., of Toronto, Ontario.
