Changes for Manitoba ATV riders

May 21, 2009 - we have just received information about changes to the use of all-terrain vehicles in Manitoba.

The change is new restrictions for use on Crown land. If you want to use Crown land for an ATV rally you will have to get a provincial permit. The permit can be revoked or denied if the conditions are too dry.

There have been several wildfires in the past, particularly one southeast of Winnipeg in 2008 that was caused by hot debris from ATV mufflers. The fire damage covered 3,400 hectares.

There is also a prohibition in place regarding provincial parks and ecological reserves. ATV rallies are already prohibited in these areas.
