Boy and girl Roots sleepwear recall

Boys and Girls Sleepwear Sets by Roots recalled August 13, 2010

Health Canada has recalled the following four styles of Roots-brand boys and girls' sleepwear, which are made of 100% cotton and available in sizes XL, 2T, 3T, 4T, 5T.

You need to check the item number and UPC which can be found on the sales tag as well as on a hang tag on the inside of the sleepwear.

This is a list of the recalled sleepwear:

  • Baby Girl Canada Short Set white and pink t-shirt and shorts with Canadian flags print Item Number 2121-1542 BG with UPC 779134728288
  • Baby Girl Lady Bug Short Set pink t-shirt and shorts with lady bug print Item Number 2121-1539 BG with UPC 779134726505

What is the danger?

Health Canada has a program that samples and evaluates. This program has identified that the recalled sleepwear does not meet the design and flammability requirements for children's sleepwear under Canadian law.

Health Canada advises, "Children's sleepwear that is loose fitting or that has loose edges can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more easily than tight-fitting sleepwear. Once ignited the sleepwear can burn rapidly and cause severe burns to large areas of the child's body, resulting in shock and sometimes death."

The good news is that at the time of the recall neither Health Canada nor Roots Canada Ltd. has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this sleepwear.

What do I do now?
You should remove the sleepwear and return it to any "Roots 73" Outlet Store for a full refund. If you need more information, please contact moc.stoor|ecivresremotsuc#moc.stoor|ecivresremotsuc.

How many of these were sold and where were they made?

Roots stores across Canada have sold approximately 1,195 sets of the recalled sleepwear from May 2010 to July 2010. The sleepwear was manufactured in China with the manufacturer shown as Roots Canada Ltd. of Toronto, Ontario.
