Bosch hammer drill safety product recall

On November 25, 2010 Health Canada recalled Bosch Hammer Drills for safety concerns.

This recall involves the Bosch 1.3 centimetres (1/2 inch) 2-Speed Hammer Drill. These units have "BOSCH" printed in red letter on the side of the drills and have the following model numbers:

  • HD19-2
  • HD19-2D
  • HD19-2L
  • HD 21-2

What is the danger?

These models have a grounding system and trigger switch that could cause ground wire abrasion and/or ground connector failure posing a shock hazard. In addition, the switch trigger could become stuck in the "on" position which is an injury hazard to the user.

At time of the recall neither Robert Bosch Tool Corporation nor Health Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.

What should I do?

Consumers should immediately stop using the hammer drill and return the product to Robert Bosch Tool Corporation for repair.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 375 of the recalled products were sold at Various distributors and retailers including Lowes Canada from September 2009 to August 2010.

These hammer drills were manufactured in Switzerland and imported by Robert Bosch Tool Corp., of Mount Prospect, Illinois.
