Bicycle front fork steering tube recall

March 15, 2011 Health Canada recalled Rocky Mountain Bicycles.

This recall involves bicycles with Rocky Mountain Bicycle printed on the frame. Only bicycles with certain serial numbers, located on the bottom side of the bicycle, are included in this recall. The recalled bicycles include the following models, with the specified colour:


  • Solo CX 2008 Gun Metal Grey
  • Solo CX 2009 White
  • Solo CX 2010 White
  • Solo CXD 2008 Gun Metal Grey
  • Solo CXD 2009 Titanium Silver
  • Solo CXR 2009 Black
  • Metropolis SEA 2010 Grey

What is the danger?

The front fork steering tube can break, posing a fall injury hazard and potential accident risk.

Procycle has received nine reported incidents, in Canada, of front fork steering tubes breaking; two reported injuries of cuts and scrapes, and one reported a broken bone injury.

At time of recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these bicycles.

What should I do?

You should immediately stop using the bicycles and contact your Rocky Mountain bicycles dealer or Procycle with the serial number to determine if it is included in the recall and to arrange for a free replacement of the fork.

How many were sold and where?

Approximately 1,026 of the recalled bicycles were sold in Canada at bicycle and other retail specialty stores. These recalled products were sold from June 2007 to November 2010.

The bikes were manufactured in Canada. The manufacturer is Procycle Group Inc. of St-Georges, Quebec. The distributor is Rocky Mountain Bicycles of St-Georges, Quebec.
