Back Dating

Insurance policy dates are very important. To change the effective date of a policy requires the agreement of you, the insured; the agent, who represents the brokerage you are using and underwriter, representing the insurance company writing the policy.

Back dating makes the effective date of a policy earlier than the application date.

Back dating is often used to make the age of the person applying for life insurance at date of the policy issue lower than it actually was in order to get a lower premium.

For property or automobile insurance this would be to gain coverage prior to the actual date of the signed policy application or contract.

Be very careful when considering back dating. Ask questions and be sure that you understand any implications. Take control of your insurance.
