What is the danger?

The intake tubing on the recalled AvaLung packs may crack in cold temperatures and may cause the product to fail. Black Diamond states that the air intake system on these packs extracts air from the snow, allowing the victim of an avalanche to breathe while buried under the snow.

There has been one report of the tubing cracking, with no reported injuries.

At time of the recall Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.

What should I do?

If you purchased your AvaLung pack in 2010 then you should immediately stop using it and check its model name, color, and PO number. If the pack has been recalled, you are advised to contact Black Diamond for further instructions.
