Arbitration is something you can chose to do rather then go to court (litigation) to resolve a dispute between an insurer and its customer or even between insurers. An unbiased panel or person is appointed to review the case and determine responsibility for paying for the loss or the amount to be paid.

So if you have had a claim and cannot reach what you consider to be a fair settlement with the insurance company then you have the option of arbitration. Since this is at your cost it is best that you have discussed all your options with your agent or broker prior to taking this step.

Often your broker or agent can assist you due to prior experience in your type of claim. Though a broker is not licensed to be a part of the claims process they are able to help you achieve fairness.
