Alberta is suing Big Tobacco

Alberta is jumping on the band wagon and suing Big Tobacco. The lawsuit could end up at $10 billion for recovery of health care costs.

British Columbia, New Brunswick and Ontario have already filed statements of claim in hopes to help pay for the costs of treating smoking related diseases such as lung cancer, emphysema and cancers from second-hand smoke.

If the suit is successful then we may see tougher restrictions on the sale of tobacco.

The government has tried to reduce and prevent tobacco use with different advertising campaigns. They are still collecting taxes on every package sold. How much money has the government made on the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products?

It will be interesting to see how the courts view the situation.
